Irish Roots

Irish music is one of the enchanting facets that defines the allure of the Emerald Isle. Whether it’s the melodic voice singing wistful tunes about Ireland’s beauty or the classic pub song that compels you to move your feet – that’s the very essence of Ireland, as it loves and lives. While Irish music boasts a rich history, it has truly garnered global popularity only in the last century. Daniel Hope and his AIR Ensemble, a group of internationally renowned musicians he previously toured the world with for “AIR – A Baroque Journey”, are now immersing themselves in the diverse musical landscape of Ireland, exploring the island’s myths and musical legends. The focal point includes compositions by Irish artists from the Renaissance to the late Baroque, as well as works by George Frideric Handel, who spent an extended period in Dublin in 1741/42 for performances of his Messiah. For Daniel Hope, this musical odyssey is deeply intertwined with his family narrative: his great-grandfather Daniel McKenna set forth from Ireland over a century ago in search of fortune. For Hope, who continues to hold an Irish passport alongside his German one, this musical exploration is also a journey of self-discovery.
