«A more sustainable Gstaad» is our commitment to tourism in the Gstaad holiday region, that is as climate-friendly and sustainable as possible. It is less about perfection and more about a holistic and long-term approach to the issue – an honest endeavour to combine alpine enjoyment with sustainability.
We are aware of our responsibility for the sustainable development of our holiday region and want future generations to be able to experience the beauty and diversity of our region. We therefore understand sustainability as «grandchildren compatibility».
Since 2026, the Gstaad holiday region has been certified to the internationally recognised TourCert standard and classified as a Swisstainable Destination Level III. This external certification confirms that sustainability is firmly embedded in the tourism strategy and is being systematically developed further. It is not seen as an end in itself, but as a commitment to continue along this path in a transparent, verifiable and collaborative manner.
Our work is guided by the tourism strategy, which defines the principles of sustainability. In addition, the «GST-Kompass» serves as a company-wide orientation: It summarises key elements from our strategy, statutes and shared values and provides clear guidance for responsible action.
For us, sustainable tourism takes four dimensions into account:
- economic performance (regional value creation, long-term investments)
- ecological responsibility (protection of natural resources, energy efficiency, renewable energies)
- social solidarity (equal treatment, quality of life, education, participation)
- the right of future generations to shape their own future
These four dimensions also form the technical basis for the external assessment carried out as part of the Swisstainable Destination and TourCert certification schemes.
«A more sustainable Gstaad» highlights projects, collaborations and activities that contribute to the sustainable development of the region – from environmental and resource issues to sustainable mobility, regional value creation and social responsibility. Many of these initiatives are developed in collaboration with local authorities, businesses and partner organisations.
The aim is to preserve the natural and cultural quality of the region while ensuring attractive living and working conditions for the population. «A more sustainable Gstaad» is an ongoing development process – involving everyone who works in and helps shape the destination. Ongoing projects and partnerships are regularly reviewed and further developed.
The following principles and tools, amongst others, are used to ensure structured development:
