Ukrainian violinist Georgii Moroz impresses not only as an outstanding competition winner but also as a composer – a dual talent he aims to showcase in his debut performance in Gstaad. For his programme, he has crafted a compelling “blend”: the virtuosity of Bartók and Ysaÿe paired with the emotional depth of Prokofiev’s Violin Sonata No. 1. This poignant piece, performed by David Oistrakh and Samuil Feinberg at Prokofiev’s funeral, carries an eerie premonition described by the composer himself: the violin’s glissandi in the outer movements sound as if “the wind is blowing through a graveyard.”
