The Bergbahnen East Route combines some of the most beautiful trails in the east into a varied circular tour. To warm up, you cycle from Gstaad to Schönried to the Horneggli cable car. After the ascent, the first highlight awaits: the popular Horny Trail. This flowing descent is combined with the varied trails through the Saanenwald forest all the way to Saanenmöser.
Via the only unavoidable tarmac section, you reach Oeschseite. This is where the Simmegrund Trail begins – one of the most playful singletrack trails in the region. Natural bends, undulations and varied sections ensure a fun ride all the way to Zweisimmen. The Rinderbergbahn takes you back into the mountains. After a short push or carry of around 70 metres in altitude to the Rinderbergspitz, the extra effort is rewarded with a magnificent panorama. The route leads towards Hornberg via the scenic Grat Trail. Between Alp Parwengen and Hornberg, a little-used alpine road offers impressive views of the Saanenland, the Obersimmental and the surrounding peaks.
To finish, another real trail extravaganza awaits. Via the Horny Trail and the unspoilt route towards Berschel – which in places resembles a trail rather than an alpine road – the route leads to the challenging Schafwald Trail. This forms the crowning finale on the way back to Gstaad. After around 35 kilometres and countless metres of trail, a cool drink on the Gstaad promenade is just what you need.
